Senior Financial Controller

Location: Hybrid working, based at Cardiff Gate, with flexibility for remote work
Salary: £70,000–£80,000 per annum, plus an annual bonus
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday

We’re looking for a Senior Financial Controller (SFC) to join our executive team. This key leadership role reports to the Group Head of Finance and works closely with the CEO and Managing Director. The SFC will have three direct reports (2 Financial Controllers and 1 Finance Manager) and lead a finance team of 10. The role is responsible for team performance management to ensure the delivery of premium financial services to clients, overseeing EMSL’s financial performance, and maintaining a robust regulatory and control environment.

Key Responsibilities

People Management
  • Lead, develop, and motivate a finance team of 10, including 3 direct reports (2 Financial Controllers and 1 Finance Manager).
  • Ensure team performance through regular 1:1s, clear objectives, and a structured personal development plan process.
  • Create a high-performing team culture to deliver premium financial services to clients.
  • Manage performance, address underperformance, and foster a positive, collaborative team ethos.
  • Plan and structure the finance team to align with future business needs.
Client-Facing Financial Services
  • Ensure delivery of financial elements of client contracts, ensuring all obligations are met.
  • Support pricing of new contracts and contribute to proposals for expanding client services.
Strategic Leadership
  • Collaborate with the executive team on business planning and deliver the annual business plan objectives.
  • Develop financial forecasts, budgets, and plans to meet future business needs.
  • Contribute to strategic decision-making by providing financial insights and challenges.
Financial Management and Reporting
  • Ensure accurate payroll records and timely payments.
  • Provide clear and concise updates on liquidity and financial performance to the board.
  • Meet financial reporting, taxation, and regulatory deadlines.
Corporate Governance
  • Maintain and enhance financial policies and controls, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Regularly review systems and processes, recommending and implementing improvements.

Who You Are

  • A qualified finance professional with significant experience in a senior financial leadership role.
  • Proven experience in a client-facing financial services environment or multi-entity finance services provision.
  • Exceptional people management skills, with a track record of motivating teams and managing performance to deliver exceptional results.
  • A confident communicator with the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficient in financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and business planning.
Desirable
  • Experience in the renewable energy sector or similar industries.
