Construction
Management

A high-performing asset must start with a high-quality build. During construction of your project, you want the peace of mind that your contractors are working to the required standard. Substandard parts or installations, cutting corners, or unobserved planning or environmental conditions can lead to your asset not functioning to performance guarantees, or worse.

EMSL offers effective and proactive project management services during the construction phase to ensure your project is delivered to the exacting standards you require. With in-house technical, engineering and financial staff we can provide valuable advice and support across a range of disciplines to ensure the construction phase is delivered efficiently and to a high standard, on-time and within budget.

Our scope of services includes:

  • Technical, engineering and financial advice in relation to the construction phase;
  • Liaising with landowners, local authorities, insurers and DNOs;
  • Financial services;
  • Obtaining any necessary permits or agreements for commissioning and
  • Managing the activities of the EPC Contractor, O&M contractor or other suppliers.

EMSL has managed the construction of several types of renewable power stations, including
six biomass power stations with a combined capacity of 217MW and three wind farms. We have an excellent reputation within the industry for problem solving to make progress.

Our breadth of experience means we understand the issues that can arise in construction of renewable assets and we can mitigate against those problems before they happen.

Case study

Western Wood Energy Plant

The Western Wood Energy Plant, situated in Margam, South Wales, was Wales’ first commercial scale biomass project. It is capable of generating 14 MWe by burning forestry wood and clean wood processing residues in a state-of-the-art combustion plant.

Eco2 Limited joined the project in 2004 as a joint venture partner, bringing with it the expertise necessary to put together a suite of construction and finance contracts. The plant took the honours in the category of Sustainability at the LABC Building Excellence Awards 2009.

The plant is now owned and managed by Greensphere Capital LLP.

“Our partnership with Eco2 has resulted in the development of some very successful renewable energy projects across several technologies. We look forward to our continued working relationship.”
