General Manager, Templeborough Biomass Power Plant

Eco2 Management Services Ltd (EMSL) are looking for a General Manager (full time) to be based on site at Templeborough Biomass Power Plant, Rotherham.

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced General Manager to oversee the commercial and technical performance of the Templeborough Biomass Power Plant, managed on behalf of its owner, Schroders Greencoat Capital. The role involves ensuring the effective administration of key contracts, such as the Fuel Supply Agreement, O&M Contract, and Power Purchase Agreement, while maintaining strong relationships with all contractual counterparts.

  • The salary range for this role is £75-85k plus annual company bonus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Safety: Lead and promote safety across the company, supporting contractors in establishing and maintaining industry-leading safe systems of work.
  • Contract Management: Oversee the administration of the O&M Contractor and other main contracts, ensuring compliance and performance improvements.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track and report key plant performance data, ensuring continuous improvement and compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Stakeholder Management: Establish and manage relationships with regulatory bodies such as Ofgem and the Environment Agency, as well as other key stakeholders.
  • Record-Keeping and Reporting: Maintain high standards of record-keeping and analyse performance and financial data for effective reporting to plant owners and at Board meetings.
  • Financial Assessment: Support the Finance team in assessing the financial impacts of technical decisions and issues.
  • Project Engagement: Engage with the EPC Contractor on post-commissioning engineering works and develop capital projects to enhance the plant’s environmental and economic credentials.
  • Team Management: Managing, motivating and supporting a multi-discipline team to deliver services in line with our client contracts.

You will have:

  • Significant experience in large-scale process plant operation, ideally in power generation or steam raising.
  • An engineering background with relevant qualifications.
  • Experience of managing complex contracts and partnering with contractors to deliver high performance.
  • Knowledge of environmental permit regulations.
  • People management experience and prior experience of working in line with internal processes for performance management, training and development, employee relations, recruitment and absence management.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite, including Excel, Teams, and SharePoint. Excel expertise is essential.
  • IOSH Managing Safety or above, or extensive experience of leadership in a positive safety culture.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Project management skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to multitask.
  • Strong relationship management, interpersonal skills, and political awareness.
  • The ability to work well in a team and build productive working relationships.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, and be trustworthy, credible, and reliable.

Experience of biomass power plants would be desirable but not essential.
